20070419 - where's singapore
talking to beks this morning brought some decent laughable comments.
first one was bout bloomington being a college town. was trying to explain that basically, come summer, the town's gonna be pretty empty. most of the student population will be heading back home. and that's what this town's all about - the students. so yeah, things will be pretty darn quiet around here! and to prove she understood, she said.."basically when its summer, the cows will outnumber the people?" heh. it makes sense! bumfart indiana's home to cows and farms. a decent university in the middle of nowhere!
oh and i was givin an example of a typical conversation between an american and singaporean about singapore;
american: so where you from?
singaporean: singapore.
american: ooh. which part of singapore?
singaporean: singapore.
american: don't you go all asian-smarty-pants on me, which town? singapore's a state right?
singaporean: uh huh!
american: so....which part of singapore?
singaporean: singapore!
american: BUT YOU SAID SINGAPORE'S A STATE! HOW CAN A STATE BE IN A STATE!
singaporean: yeah...the thing is, singapore's a state country. or along those lines. its not broken up into different states.
american: oooh i see......so....it's not in china?
damn these americans. kinda exagerrated, but you get my point. i think the same applies to all the lesser known asian countries. to the americans, we're all from china.
oh wait, and they think india is not in Asia. india is a whole continent on it's own to be made fun of by americans.
(we were all doing some calculations)
niq: okok, just let me handle the calculations. let the asian kid do the math.
brad (american dude) to everyone else: see. if i said that, it would have been rude.
